So, I had my 28 week check-up at the doctor today. It also meant I needed to be tested for gestational diabetes. The way the test for this condition is by drawing blood 1 hour after drinking a very sugary drink that tastes somewhat like orange soda without the fizz. It actually didn't taste that bad, but about 30 minutes later, I was getting ready to leave the house and I instantly felt sick. I was sweaty, dizzy, and sick to my stomach. Since Rob had to work this morning, I had to drive myself to the doctor. There was a moment while I was driving when I thought I would actually pass out and my vision became blurry. I made it to the doctor's office in one piece, but was worried that my body was reacting this way. I told the doctor my symptoms and she said it was perfectly normal and that everyone reacts differently. It would have been nice of them to tell me about all this beforehand so I could have been prepared for everything. It really made me think that I was going to fail the test. I still won't know the test results for a few days, but I guess I feel better knowing that I'm not the only one who reacts this way.
Baby Patrick is measuring normal and I am a little over 28 weeks along. Baby's heartbeat was strong and steady at 140 beats per minute. The doctor did say that I gained a lot of weight in the past month (6 pounds which seemed normal to me, but what do I know) so I should watch what I'm eating a little more carefully. We'll see how that goes. :) I now have to start going to the doctor every 2 weeks instead of once a month.
Hoping these next 11 weeks are problem free, and that myself and Baby Patrick continue to stay perfectly healthy. Will update with glucose results, but really hoping for the best.
I felt the same way after drinking the "orange" drink. I passed the test and I think you will too! :)
